The hitting allies rule is really punitive. It’s like a super fumble (in fact one of the fumble results is exactly that) that doesn’t require a confirmation roll AND doesn’t preclude an actual fumble. It also violates the concept of not punishing other players for bad rolls. I really dislike it as that is what the whole -4 for firing into melee is supposed to represent- trying to not hit allies.


You’re right of course, but I’ve come to the conclusion they like their games as hard as possible. Just the fact that they can’t start with a stat above 16 naturally means they will never be able to catch up to the CR of the encounters as written. I’m not at all surprised that they chose to compound this higher miss-chance with penalties for missing 🙂
You have to admit it makes for a good podcast though!

This is a GM decision, but as written the lance does double, triple when spirited, damage, not the character. To show the difference you can see the “Order of the Claymore” which gives the Cavalier double damage on a charge. The RAW of the Lance says the ” A lance deals double damage when used from the back of a charging mount. While mounted, you can wield a lance with one hand.” So 2d8 + all other bonuses instead of 1d8 + all other bonuses.
